There are some churches
Where i felt the love emotion oh so sweet
And there’s some churches
Where i’ve been so bored i drifted off to sleep
Well i have seen the light and power
At the church of Saint John Coltrane
But in the chambers of darkness
Is where i felt the higher spiritual plain
There are some chapels
That have brought the people
Way down to their knees
And there are churches
That have claimed to save the people from disease
But there’s this place in Houston, Texas
Seems like the perfect church to me
Reminds me of your heart
And how comforting a cold black void could be
Your heart is like the Rothko Chapel
Cold dark void yet simple and intriguing
Somewhat comforting
Got me believing almost anything
There was this line by Charlie Parker
Somewhat worth remembering
“If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of the horn”
Chances are you’ll never be reborn
My religion is in nature, art and literacy
My religion is in science, music and poetry
My religion is the mountain, my church is in the sea
My religion is to love you, yes my church is entropy
My religion is in your eyes but my church ain’t organized
My faith is in the sweetness that you might realize
But my faith it could be fiction my faith could not be smart
My religion is the weather, my church is in your heart
But your heart is like the Rothko Chapel
Cold dark void yet simple and intriguing
Somewhat comforting
Got me believing almost anything
There was this line by Charlie Parker
Probably worth remembering
“If you don't live it, it won’t come out of your horn.”
Chances are you’ll never be reborn
Just saw them performing much of this album on their west coast tour. San Diego and Pioneertown dates. Didn’t know any of them lol. I’m all about their old shit but I like this. Playing it more and more. Appreciate the evolution of one of my favorite bands in the world since middle school! 🖤 Red

Title track was the first I'd ever heard of Jeff's work and it struck me like a ten-ton hammer.
Was a perfect fit for the small-town college I was attending at the time, not far from train tracks itself.
Every time I hear this, I can see the amber light of the street lamps and think about a few walks I made around campus in the dead of night.
Still haven't grabbed hold of the life I've been given as firmly as I ought to, but this song soothes my regret...and the chorus reminds me.... moonandstar8765
