The neighborhood is cleaning up
I guess it means the rent is on the rise
Where our apartment used to be
They built a fancy condominium highrise
Which at our lowly income
None of us could ever really quite afford
We’re waiting on the next eviction
Wondering what the future’s got in store
Gotta tell me how it’s been
You see i had not been around here in awhile
The only thing that changes
Is the uniformal regiment of style
The drugs took your desire
And now there ain’t no fire in your eyes
We used to be close friends
But now i don’t even recognize that guy
Just a baby in his mommy’s eyes
He ain’t crazy if he love in the darkness
When the days coming down to die
He ain’t heartless if he drank until he can’t even cry
Better leave before it blinks
I think the sky is a sudden open eye
I’ll buy you half a drink
If you give me back my consolation prize
Gotta message from Melissa telling me
She got a feeling like she’d never had
I knew it’d be the last one
I’d be lying if i said i wasn’t sad
She’s just a baby in her mommy’s eyes
She ain’t crazy if she love in the darkness
When the day coming down to die
She don’t feel it if she drank until she can’t even cry
She’s moaning through her hips now
She grits her teeth through her eyes
Can see it in her lips
how she secretly despises all these guys
These needy leeches drip saliva
From the corners of their mouths
Lost in her fantasy that they’re not lonely
Drunkenly they pull the money out
They’re just babies in their mommy’s eyes
It ain’t crazy if they love in the darkness
When the days coming down to die
It ain’t heartless
if they drink until they can’t even cry

Just saw them performing much of this album on their west coast tour. San Diego and Pioneertown dates. Didn’t know any of them lol. I’m all about their old shit but I like this. Playing it more and more. Appreciate the evolution of one of my favorite bands in the world since middle school! 🖤 Red
